Rhea Chakraborty is an Indian actress. Rhea Chakraborty was born into a Bengali family in Bangalore, Karnataka, India on 1 July 1992. Her father was an Indian Army officer. She did her schooling at Army Public School Ambala Cantt, Ambala.
Rhea began her television career in 2009 as the first runner-up on MTV India’s TVS Scooty Teen Diva. She went on to audition for a position as a VJ at MTV Delhi and was accepted. She has hosted several MTV shows, including Pepsi MTV Wassup, TicTac College Beat, and MTV Gone in 60 Seconds. In 2012, she made her film debut with the Telugu film Tuneega Tuneega where she played the character Nidhi. In 2013 she debuted in Bollywood with Mere Dad Ki Maruti as Jasleen. Controversy of Rhea Chakraborty
Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, K. K. Singh, filed an F.I.R. against Rhea Chakraborty at the Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna on July 28, 2020, about a month after his death. After thereafter, a four-member Patna Police team flew to Mumbai to question Rhea and her family. Mr. K. K. Singh said in the FIR that Sushant had complete custody of Rhea and that she had complete control over his finances, including his bank accounts and credit cards. “Sushant contacted his sister and told her that Rhea had threatened him with showing doctor receipts to the media and proving him nuts,” he added. After that, no one would offer him a job. Disha, Sushant’s secretary, committed suicide on June 8th. Sushant’s secretary, Rhea had appointed her. Rhea thereafter blocked Sushant’s phone number on her phone. Sushant was terrified that Rhea, who had threatened to implicate him in the secretary’s suicide case, would hold him responsible for his manager’s death.
Sushant Singh’s death case was handed to the CBI in August 2020, amid a burgeoning online campaign inspired by several conspiracy theories. Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, common friend Samuel Miranda, and three others were named in a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the agency. “On the request of the Bihar government and further notification from the GoI, CBI has registered a case related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and taken over the investigation of the case, previously registered at police station Rajiv Nagar, Patna vide FIR no.241/2020 dated 25-7-2020, the case was registered against six accused and others,” the agency said in a statement.
Later, she was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) as part of the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. On September 8, 2020, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Rhea Chakraborty after three days of inquiry. The Narcotics Control Bureau started its inquiries based on WhatsApp chats retrieved from Rhea Chakraborty’s phone, which revealed conversations around procuring drugs, allegedly for Sushant Singh Rajput. The bureau claimed that Dipesh Sawant (a member of Mr. Rajput’s domestic staff) collected and delivered a total of 165 grams of marijuana between March 2020 and June 2020; on orders from Rhea and Showik Chakraborty.
After Rhea was booked under Section 27 A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on 8 September 2020, the same day, she appeared before a magistrate’s court, which sent her to 14-day judicial custody; she had to spent that night at the NCB office, and the next day, i.e., on 9 Septemeber 2020, she was sent to the Byculla Jail. After her bail plea was rejected by a magistrate’s court, she moved to the special court. In her bail plea in the special court, she claimed herself to be innocent and accused the NCB of ‘falsely implicating’ her in the case. However, the special court also denied her bail request on 11 September 2020. On 7 October 2020, the Bombay High Court granted her cash bail of Rs. 1 lakh.
