Satish Kumar Yadav, an Indian amateur boxer from Bulandshahr, was born on May 4, 1989. He won a bronze medal in the super heavyweight category at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, making him the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics in the category.
Satish Kumar, the son of a Bulandshahr farmer with four kids, aspired to join the army like his older brother. He enlisted as a Sepoy in 2008 and relocated to Ranikhet, where he was noticed for his height during a boxing camp and encouraged to pursue the sport. He had no idea what boxing was at the time, assuming it was WWE because he had heard of The Undertaker and John Cena.

Satish Kumar Yadav Career
Satish Kumar picked up the boxing gloves and trained at the age of 19. He eventually entered the boxing world at the age of 21. The coaches of the Kumaon Regiment’s boxing program prepared him. Satish Kumar won his first boxing medal at the Senior National Boxing Championships in Chennai in 2011, when he won the Silver medal in his national debut.
Satish won his first international Gold medal in the Grand Prix Ustinad Labem in the Czech Republic in 2018, two years after missing out on a chance to represent India at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He followed that up with a Silver medal at the India Open International Boxing in New Delhi.
Achievements
At the 2013 World Championships, Satish Kumar made his international boxing debut for India. However, he was judged ‘unfit’ due to a cut above his right eye and lost in the quarterfinals of the 91kg Super Heavyweight division.
Satish won his first international medal a year later, a Bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games in Icheon, South Korea, after losing to Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko in the Super Heavyweight event semi-final. Satish won another bronze medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok in 2015, this time in the Super-Heavyweight division.
He rocketed to prominence at the 2018 Commonwealth Games when he reached the final of the Super Heavyweight event and won a Silver medal after losing to England’s Frazer Clarke. Satish was awarded the bronze medal in the 91kg Super Heavyweight category at the 2019 Asian Boxing Championships.
Satish will compete in his first Olympics in July-August 2021 in Tokyo. After defeating Kazakhstan’s Otgonbayer Daivii in the Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifiers, he became India’s first Olympic boxer to fight in the 91kg Super Heavyweight Category.
