Amit Panghal is an Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer and amateur boxer (JCO). In the Flyweight division, he won a silver medal at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships. At the 2018 Asian Games, Panghal won a gold medal. Amit Panghal was born in the hamlet of Mayna in the Rohtak district of Haryana on October 16, 1995. His father, Vijender Singh Panghal, is a Mayna farmer, while his older brother, Ajay Panghal, is an Indian Army soldier. Ajay, a former amateur boxer, encouraged Amit to join Sir Chhoturam Boxing Academy in 2007.

Panghal is a junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army as of March 2018. (JCO). He is a member of the Mahar Regiment’s 22nd Battalion.

Amit Panghal Career

12-year-old Amit Pangal was a tough, determined, and passionate individual. He’d go head-to-head with his considerably older brothers. Amit Pangal’s first achievement occurred in 2010 when he was 14 years old and won the Gold medal in the sub-junior nationals in Maharashtra. Pangal’s elder brother Ajay Pangal ultimately decided to let go of his boxing goal after watching his younger brother ascending up the ladder of success and joined the Indian Army in 2011.

After his coach, Anil Dhankar, was transferred to Gurgaon, Amit Pangal moved to Combat Boxing Club. Amit began to dominate at the junior levels after being groomed and nurtured by his coach. Following his success at the junior level, Amit Pangal was promoted to the senior level. He had an immediate impression after being promoted to senior level, capturing the Gold medal in his first appearance at the National Boxing Championships in 2017. In February 2018, Amit Pangal won his 1st International Gold medal at the Strandzha Cup, which he defended in 2019.

Achievements

In his first appearance at the National Boxing Championships in 2017, Panghal won the gold medal. In May 2017, he earned the bronze medal in the light flyweight category at the 2017 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in Tashkent, qualifying for the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships, where he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov.

Panghal won the gold medal at the Strandzha Cup in Sofia in February 2018. In the light flyweight division, he won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He earned the Gold Medal in the Asian Boxing Championships 2019 in Bangkok in April 2019. Kim In-kyu, a Korean boxer, defeated him (Bronze Medalist world boxing championship 2017).

On the advice of the Boxing Federation of India, he was nominated for the Arjuna Awards on September 11, 2018, in recognition of his outstanding performance at the Asian Games. Amit Panghal successfully defended the cup by winning gold medals in the Strandzha Cup in Sofia for the second year in a row (2018, 2019). On 21 September 2019, he became the first Indian boxer to win the silver medal at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Panghal was beaten 0-5 by Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the 52 kg final, earning a silver medal.

Panghal qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by defeating Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in the 52 kg quarterfinals in March 2020. [9] Panghal won a gold medal in the Boxing World Cup 2020 in Cologne, Germany, in December. His opponent, Argishti Terteryan of Germany, similarly gave him a walkover. Panghal won a bronze medal in the 52kg category at the Governor’s Cup 2021 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
