Smriti Mandhana Biography

Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana is an Indian female cricketer who represents the Indian women’s team. She was born on July 18, 1996, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She is a left-handed opening batswoman who can also bowl right-arm medium pace for a portion of the game. She was named the Best Women’s International Cricketer of the Year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in June 2018. She was also honoured with the prestigious ‘Arjuna Award’ earlier this year.

She and her family moved to Madhavnagar, Sangli, Maharashtra, when she was two years old, where she completed her education. Her father and brother, Shravan, both played district-level cricket for Sangli, which inspired her to take up the sport after seeing her brother compete in various Maharashtra state Under-16s tournaments. She was also picked for Maharashtra’s Under-15 team when she was nine years old. She was a member of the Maharashtra Under-19s team when she was eleven years old.

In October 2013, she made history when she became the first Indian woman to score a double-hundred in a one-day match. In the West Zone Under-19 Tournament at the Alembic Cricket Ground in Vadodara, she scored an unbeaten 224 off just 150 balls while playing for Maharashtra against Gujarat.

Mandhana made history in 2013 by becoming the first Indian woman to score a double century in a one-day match. She did so while playing for Maharashtra’s Gujarat team. The match took place at Vadodara’s Alembic Cricket Ground. She smashed 150 balls for an unbeaten 224 runs. This was her first big break.

She scored three half centuries for India Red in the Women’s Challenger Trophy in 2016. She was the tournament’s highest scorer, scoring 62 from 82 balls in the finals to help her team secure the trophy against India Blue.

She and Harmanpreet Kaur were the first two Indian women to sign for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). In January 2017, she was injured while playing against the Melbourne Renegades. She scored 89 runs in 12 innings during this competition.


In November 2018, she was named to the Hobart Hurricanes’ squad for the 2018-19 Womens Big Bash League season.
Mandhana made her test debut against England in August 2014. In this match, she scored 22 in the first innings and 51 in the second. She and Thirush Kamini put on a 76-run opening-wicket stand in the second innings. Her team was able to win the match thanks to this result.
